Chapter 33

Some Good and Some Bad Girl Talk

Sunday morning and I am alone in bed. I stretch out and take a deep breath. I feel better this morning, much better than I did yesterday, but I think it is time for me to go home. I need some time to myself today. Manny and Chris should be home from the long holiday weekend later this afternoon.

I smell food cooking and I am starved. In the kitchen Declan is making breakfast, I’m happy to see he has ventured into cooking bacon, the smell is making my mouth water. Ben is drinking his coffee and he is on his laptop. Both men stop and look at me when I walk into the kitchen.

“What?” I ask.

“How are you feeling?” ask Declan.

“Better, thanks.”

I look at Ben knowing by his face that he is aware of some of what went down between me and Declan last night. I wonder how much he has told him.

“Are you sure? Declan told me you weren’t feeling well last night.”

“I’m okay really,” I say relieved. The whole baby talk is something I would rather have when I am fully awake.

I sit down and Declan puts a plate full of food in front of me and kisses the top of my head. I look at him and he winks at me. He hands me cup of my choco-coffee mixture shaking his head. I know he thinks it’s gross, that’s why I think it is extra sweet that he made it for me.

Ben watches the exchange between me and Declan with a wary eye. I just smile at him but I know he is going to ask me later for details of what happened last night.

I tell the guys that I am going to go home this afternoon. They look at each other. I know they are expecting there to be some dramatic reason I am leaving early. I tell them I have some errands to run and I want to spend some time with Manny and Chris.

When I am ready to leave, Ben pulls me aside and asks me if I am really okay.

“Did something happen between you and Declan?”

“No, I’m fine Ben, but we should talk.”

“Fine, let’s talk now…Please, we had such a wonderful holiday together. I feel I can’t let you go without you telling me what happened last night, I won’t be able to stop thinking about it.”

“Okay Ben.”

We sit in the living room. I take a deep breath and I make myself totally vulnerable to another human being for the second time in less than a day. I tell Ben I want babies, lots of them with him and Declan. I tell him I am frightened of my feelings coming on so suddenly, but they are real.

He kisses me suddenly and passionately.

“You’re not weirded out by what I just told you Ben?”

“Not at all, I think we need more time together first, but I see the same future with you Laina.”

Thank God one of these men is not afraid to talk to me, to be just as vulnerable as I am.
